Editing Software Tutorials

As we approached post production, there were multiple effects that we had intended to apply to our footage. However we did not know how to create all of these effects within Final Cut Pro. As a result, we had searched the internet in order to find out how to apply these effects. Below are the following tutorials we had used. Both tutorial turned out to be very helpfull as we were going to use the fade to white to end our production however when we showed our focus group they chose the cut to black ending instead. The flip and rotate tutroial helped us to make our video dynamic however our focus group said that it did not fit in with song we had so we chose to not include a flip motion or rotate motion.

Production Tutorials

Before we started the filming process, we had decided that we should research some concepts used when filming music videos, as well as looking into the settings that we could change on the camera we used. Below are our findings. The first tutorial helped us to ensure we achieved the correct apperture and exposure in all our shots, it also aloud us to get the correct depth of field and focus. The second tutorial tought us we shutter speed we should be shooting our music video at, our focus group decided that the best shutter speed for realisic film quality was 24fps. The final tutorial showed us how to lay out and format a shot correctly; this also aloud us to check whether we broke or conformed to the codes and convetions of an acoustic video which we can apply to our final piece.

Dimensions of Digipak and Magazine Advert

As our group were about to peform the first mock ups of our digipak and magazine advert, we had realised that we needed the standard measurements in order for our images to fit the product. Below are the necessary dimensions we will be referring to when creating our product.

Standard size of a Digipak - 140mm x 125mm x 6.5mm

Standard size of a Full Page Advert- 7-1/2” X 10”, (45 picas X 60 picas), Bleed: 8-5/8” X 11-1/4”

Fonts for Digipak

In preparation for designing our ancillary products, we decided that we should research specifically into the fonts used on digpaks and magazine covers. This is because it is a key component to any digipak or magazine advert, as it can be a visual shorthand for what the genre of music is. Below are our findings.

Presentation Tutorials

While we have been researching, we needed ways to present our work so that our research, planning and production can be easily acessed and well presented. Therefore, we had researched into the different presentation tools that we could use. Below are a few examples that we have found.

www.Slideshare.com
www.Prezi.com
www.slideboom.com

In addition to this, we noticed that when we were posting our research, sometimes a coloured highlight would appear on our work. We had then researched ways to prevent the highlight appearing. Below is a forum post that helped us find a solution.

Brainstorm

In order to decide what we would be filming, we decided that we would need to brainstorm ideas. However as we all struggled to find a time we could brainstorm together, we decided to convey our ideas over the internet when we would all be available. As we did not know how to share each others screens or know what the best way to record was, we conducted some research to find out how to present our ideas to each other. Below are the tutorials we used.
