Teachers Comments

  1. At the moment your planning contains elements of all areas, but it is really not thorough. For example, your research into videos has a brief description of each video that is essentially non-critical, by which I mean it doesn’t try to explain why the director of the video has made specific choices. The Natalie Imbruglia video is a very good example. This video is a deliberately postmodern piece that challenges the relationship between narrative and performance in a very clever way. You need to dig into that. You should be doing really deep analysis, like measuring the number of cuts that you see in each video and working out how the pace quickens (ratios – etc.). This should then be informing your production planning. As far as I can tell your storyboard contains 20 shots. This implies that your music video will have 20 shots in it and I sincerely hope that this is not the case as you should have closer to 200. So, the research into the main task and the production of storyboards is basic (level 2)
However, the research into target audience is fairly sound, though the dots in your thinking are not always totally connected and your time management and use of resources is also excellent, so this lifts the whole to 13/20. If you go back and put some more detail into the storyboard and into the analysis of music videos then you should be able to lift this to 15. If you take some of the wordiness out and try to present your analysis in a more dynamic way you could get 16 or more.
    Currently 13/20

  2. Hi Arran-just copying over comments I put on Rowan's blog as I can't see a lot of difference between the two...

Not entirely sure what you have done to address My Haywood's original comments as you haven't posted an entry explaining these changes as requested! Please do as a matter of urgency and then email me when it's done. That said, I think from looking through this, there is just about enough here for a high level 3-15/20. If I've missed something and if you can add comments to all those tutorials explaining why/how you used them and specifically what for, this "final" mark could still creep into level 4...
